Photo stories, movie maker, using comment tool on word to edit writing, audacity to create radio ads/podcasts. Excel to graph information. Scratch to create animated movies. Google Sketch Up to create 3D house plans in maths. Internet sites for spelling, maths etc....

Instead of the children printing out work for correction, they now add as an attachment and email it to me. I can then direct them via the return email how they should fix up the piece or that comments have been directly inserted for them to read. This seems to be more efficient and it saves paper!

The students have made a claymation movie about ANZAC using movie maker.

I've assigned simple homework tasks. Currently a problem solving activity based around graphing and preparing info tables using Excel spreadsheets. We have a problem in that our families don't have internet access which limits what can be done at home.

I have heard from parents Neil about the improved attitude and increased enthusiasm that kids now have because they have their own netbook to work with. Have you noiticed a difference in students' attitudes towards work outside school time?

I use the netbooks everyday in my classroom in a range of ways. I use a wiki to run most of the activities and host our class blog, videos, photos and documents that the students may need. Each student also has their own wiki which is used as a digital portfolio as well as a blog which is used as a learning journal. We have used many Web 2.0 applications in the classroom such as blogs, wikis, wix, voki, poll daddy, Tikatok, glogster, dipity, Picasa etc. We also use a range of programs on the netbooks to supplement student learning. We also use other equipment such as flip cameras, digital cameras and MP3 players to present work and also assist students to reflect on their own learning. Websites such as Rainforest Maths, SuperClubsPlus and Smart Kiddies are used regularly by my students. I am starting to encourage the students to present their work in a range of ways using the technology.

Wow could you come to my school and teach Photo story to them. I have done it a bit but I would be wrapt if you could tell me how I can relate it to very young students.

Our students have had indivdual laptops from Prep to year 6 for a few years already. However, the year 6 kids get a buzz out of having a special laptop of their own and love using them. I find the screen and text a little small - old age creeping on!!
